Senior Named as Award Winner During Sugar Bowl Telecast

Ron Stiver 1995.jpgDecember 31, 1995, Greencastle, Ind. — DePauw University senior Ron Stiver, the starting center on the Tiger football team, has been named one of four Burger King Scholar-Athletes of the Week for the period ending December 30. The four-year letterman was selected by a blue ribbon panel of experts from the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame, as well as Burger King Corporation. The 6-1, 205-pound Stiver is a two-time Indiana Collegiate Athletic Conference all-academic team selection as well as a 1995 GTE Academic All-District choice. He also was the co-recipient of DePauw's "Battle of the Trenches" award given to the best lineman. Twice this past season he earned the team's offensive player of the week award.

ron stiver bk.jpgAn economics major with a 3.84 grade point average, Stiver received the George E. Lortz Scholar Athlete award, which is given to the DePauw senior football player with the highest grade point average. A Management Fellow, he has been named to the dean's list every semester.

DePauw received a $25,000 check from Burger King that will go toward the University's general scholarship fund.
