Al Hodge 2010 Roast.jpgJanuary 13, 2010, Greencastle, Ind. — "On Feb. 6 in downtown Rushville, one beloved former teacher will be sweating for the sake of charity," begins a story in the Rushville Republican. "The Heart of Rushville, along with a little help from friends, will roast former RCHS teacher Al Hodge in the organization's second annual Rushville Celebrity Roast. All proceeds will benefit the Heart of Rushville."

Hodge, a 1965 graduate of DePauw, taught at Rushville Consolidated High School for 35 years and chaired the social studies department.  Elizabeth Gist writes, "He holds an undergraduate degree from DePauw University and a master's degree from Indiana University, both with majors in history. He was a RCHS Teacher of the Year nominee three times, was the recipient of a Sagamore of the Wabash Award, a three time ISTAR teacher winner, and a recipient of the Rushville Republican Golden Apple Award for teaching. Hodge was published several times by the Indiana Historical Society and edited a series of student publications for them as well. He also was instrumental in forming what is now known as Peer Helpers and Facilitators at Rushville Al Hodge 2009 crop.jpgConsolidated High School."

"While most of my academic background was in history, I wound up teaching psychology ... most of the time," Hodge tells the newspaper. "I did go back then and take additional graduate classes in psychology and counseling."

Hodge serves on the board of the Rush County Community Foundation and was named the county's 2009 Citizen of the Year.
