Tigers Dominate Lakeland 79-46 in NCAA Basketball Tournament Opener

walker_kate_200910wbb.jpgMarch 5, 2010, Holland, Mich. — DePauw University rolled out to a big early lead and emerged with a 79-46 victory over Lakeland College in the first round of the NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Tournament this evening. With the win, the Tigers advance to a second round game Saturday night at 7 p.m. versus the winner of tonight's contest between Hope College (27-1) and Denison University (21-7).

The Tigers led 42-21 at the half; for the entire game they outrebounded Lakeland 47 to 31.

Now 26-3 on the season and the winner of 22 straight games, DePauw was Basketball Baseline.jpgled by freshman Kate Walker (pictured at top) who had 15 points. Emily Marshall collected a like number of rebounds.

The Tigers, champions of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference, are making their seventh straight NCAA Division III Championship appearance and 11th in 15 years.

The Tigers won the 2007 national title, finished third in 2002 and advanced to the national quarterfinals in 2006 and 2008.
