Washington Blanks Denison in NCAA Softball Elimination Game

May 14, 2010, Greencastle, Ind. — Washington University pitcher Claire Voris struck out 10 and allowed just two hits as the Bears blanked Denison by a 5-0 score in an elimination game of the Greencastle, Indiana Regional in the NCAA Division III Softball Championship.
The Bears improved to 35-10 and advanced in the loser's bracket where they'll face the winner of the Ohio Northern-North Central game. The Big Red finished its season at 30-17.
Washington jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first as Megan Fieser reached on an error, moved to second on Ashley Janssen's sacrifice bunt and to third on Voris' ground out. Fieser scored on Corissa Santos' single through the left side.
The Bears added four in the fifth as Voris walked and Santos singled with Voris advancing to third. Samantha Rumschlag entered the circle in relief of starter Leslie Brenner and Santos stole second. Ashton Hitchcock then delivered a two-run double to make it 3-0.
Ally Berenter and Alyssa Abramoski drew walks to load the bases before Fieser and Janssen followed with RBI singles.
Fieser paced the Bears with three of their 10 hits, while Santos and Carter Malouf each had two. Alex Murray and Kait Flore had the two hits for the Big Red.
Voris improved to 19-6 with the win, while Brenner dropped to 16-8.
