Alice Ripley '85 to Perform at NYC Benefit Concert

Alice Ripley ava10.jpgSeptember 7, 2010, Greencastle, Ind. —  Alice Ripley, the 2009 Tony Award-winning star of Broadway's Next to Normal and a member of DePauw University's Class of 1985, will be among the performers at the third annual Broadway in South Africa (BSA) benefit concert in New York City, reports Playbill.  The program is scheduled for October 4 at Manhattan Center's Grand Ballroom.

"Songwriters include Grammy Award winners Desmond Child and Julie Gold as well as Drew Gasparini, Marcy Heisler, Joe Iconis, Kait Kerrigan, Peter Lerman, Brian Lowdermilk, Jordan Mann, Catherine Porter, Jeremy Schonfeld and Jeff Thomson," reports Andrew Gans.

Last year, Ripley won a next_to_normal_ Alice Ripley 1.jpgTony Award for Best Actress in a Musical for her performance in Next to Normal. A feature story on Alice Ripley in the June 7, 2009 New York Times noted her "nakedly anguished performance" in that show. Playbill wrote that Ripley "gives what might be the most remarkable performance since Christine Ebersole's Edie Beale," calling Next to Normal "the most arresting Broadway musical of the year."
