Maggie Doherty '04 is Member of US Telemark Regional Ski Team

89515December 23, 2010, Greencastle, Ind. — Maggie Doherty, a 2004 graduate of DePauw University, has made the 2011 United States Telemark Regional Ski Team and will compete as a telemark ski racer in the 2011 World Cup Series in Europe.  Doherty is training in Whitefish, Montana. Next month she'll travel to Germany, Austria and Slovenia for three weeks to compete in the World Cup. She will also participate in races in the U.S., including the United States Telemark National Championships in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, in March 2011.

"Doherty, 28, is originally from Northern Michigan and moved to Montana in 2004. She learned to telemark three winters ago after a lifetime of alpine racing," notes the Whitefish Pilot. "She started telemark skiing4176 during Whitefish Mountain Resort’s telemark league and eventually progressed to compete in the U.S. Nationals at Big Mountain last winter, taking fourth in the slalom."

"I’m freaking out because it’s a dream come true to both ski in Europe and race in the World Cups," Doherty tells the newspaper.
