#7 DePauw Improves to 4-0 with Sweep at Manchester

March 16, 2011, North Manchester, Ind. — The seventh-ranked Tigers improved to 4-0 on the season following a doubleheader sweep at Manchester. The Tigers won the first game, 12-2, and took the nightcap by a 10-2 score in six innings. The Spartans dropped to 4-2 with the losses.
The Tigers pounded out 15 hits in the opener and Emily Bichler improved to 3-0 after allowing just an unearned run and three hits in six innings.
DePauw took a 1-0 lead in the third as Jen Kosinski doubled home Cymone Allen. Manchester knotted the score in the bottom of the third as Amy Hommema singled in Kylie Planck. Amy Hallett's solo homer in the fourth gave DePauw a 2-1 lead.
Emma Minx doubled home Brianne Weeks in the fifth before Holly Paris and Hallett followed with RBI doubles. Haley Buchanan then hit a two-run homer to left which pushed DePauw's lead to 7-1.
In the seventh, Lucy Cohen singled in Jamie Story and Kosinski drove in Rachel MacBeth with a single before Minx hit a three-run homer. The Spartans added an unearned run in the seventh.
Kosinski led the Tigers with three hits, while Minx, Hallett and Allen each had two. Minx drove in four in the win. Planck and Hommema each had two of Manchester's four hits. Janikka Tillotson dropped to 2-1 with the loss.
The Tigers collected 15 hits in the second game and scored two runs each in five different innings. Kosinski's first-inning double scored MacBeth who led off with a triple and Paris' single drove in Kosinski. DePauw made it 4-0 in the second as MacBeth doubled home Buchanan and Weeks scored Allen with a ground out.
Haley Buchanan's two-run homer in the third gave the Tigers a 6-0 lead and Minx drove in a pair in the fourth with a double.
Manchester's two runs came in the fourth as Miller tripled and later scored on Tollotson's single. Howell added an infield RBI single which brought home Hommema.
In the sixth, MacBeth scored from third on a wild pitch and Minx drove in Kosinski with a single. The game ended after six innings due to the eight-run rule.
MacBeth was 4-for-4 and scored three times, while Weeks, Minx and Buchanan had two hits apiece. Five different Spartans had one hit each.
Bichler improved to 4-0 after allowing two runs and five hits with three strikeouts and no walks. Erica Bush dropped to 2-1
DePauw opens Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play on Saturday with a 1 p.m. CDT doubleheader at Rhodes College in Memphis.Back
