Seventh-ranked Tigers Sweep Twinbill at Rhodes

March 20, 2011, Memphis, Tenn. — The seventh-ranked Tigers improved to 7-1 overall and 3-1 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference following a doubleheader sweep at Rhodes by scores of 14-3 and 15-0. The Lynx dropped to 14-8 overall and 1-3 in the SCAC.
DePauw jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning of the first game as Brianne Weeks singled and Jen Kosinski homered. In the bottom of the first, the Lynx evened the score with solo homers by Kelli Zomer and Sara Bowen.
The Tigers added six in the third as Rachel MacBeth doubled and Kosinski walked. Emma Minx followed with a two-run double before Holly Paris and Amy Hallett drew walks. Minx scored on a wild pitch and Haley Buchanan followed with a three-run homer which extended the Tigers' lead to 8-2.
DePauw scored two more in the fifth on Buchanan's solo homer and MacBeth's single which scored Cymone Allen.
Bowen's fifth-inning scored Allison Conn and cut DePauw's lead to 10-3, but Kosinski's bases-loaded double in the seventh made it 13-3 and Kosinski scored the Tigers' final run on Minx's base hit.
DePauw totaled 17 hits with Kosinski leading the way with four and MacBeth and Buchanan following with three each. Minx, Jamie Story and Allen each added two. Bowen had three of Rhodes' seven hits.
Emily Bichler improved to 6-1 with the complete game win, while Bowen suffered the loss.
In the second game, DePauw scored five in the first, four in the second and three each in the third and fourth innings. Buchanan, Kosinski and Samantha Szyska each hit three-run homers in the win.
DePauw again totaled 17 hits led by Hallett's three and two each from MacBeth, Weeks, Paris, Buchanan and Allen. Zomer had two of Rhodes' four hits.
Bichler improved to 7-1 after starting and pitching three innings. Chelsea Peters dropped to 2-4 with the loss.
DePauw travels to LaGrange tomorrow for a 4 p.m. single game.Back
