#7 DePauw Tops LaGrange in 10 Innings

March 21, 2011

March 21, 2011, LaGrange, Ga. —  Holly Paris' RBI fielder's choice in the top of the 10th scored Samantha Szyska and gave DePauw a 1-0 win at LaGrange. The seventh-ranked Tigers improved to 8-1, while the Panthers dropped to 8-5 and their eight-game win streak came to an end.

Szyska entered the game as a pinch-runner and was placed on second in the 10th as the tiebreaker rule was invoked. Amy Hallett then reached on an error allowing Szyska to move to third before Paris hit a ball to short which forced Hallett at second, but allowed Szyska to score the eventual game-winning run.

The Tigers pounded out 10 hits and left 15 runners on base in the win. Emma Minx collected four hits, while Haley Buchanan added two.

LaGrange also totaled 10 hits with Megan Wing, Shanna Brumbelow and Courtney Beshel each totaling two.

Emily Bichler improved to 8-1 as she struck out five and didn't walk a batter in 10 innings of shutout work. Kayla Folds suffered the loss after pitching six innings of relief.

DePauw returns to action tomorrow with a 1 p.m. doubleheader at Piedmont.
