Bichler Tosses One-Hit Shutout to Lead #16 DePauw to 6-0 Win in NCAA Opener

96900May 12, 2011, Adrian, Mich. — DePauw pitcher Emily Bichler allowed just one hit and two baserunners as the 16th-ranked Tigers claimed a 6-0 win over D'Youville in the opening game of the Adrian Regional in the NCAA Division III Softball Championship.

The Tigers improved to 28-8-1 with the win, while D'Youville dropped to 21-9. DePauw returns to action in the winner's bracket on Friday with a 2 p.m. game against Ohio Northern which blanked Trine today, 3-0.

Bichler retired the first eight batters she faced before allowing a walk and then allowed an infield single in the fourth, but that runner was retired when the Tigers turned a double play.

DePauw got on the board in the fourth when Emma Minx doubled with two outs and scored on Haley Buchanan's 13th homer of the season.

The Tigers added four more in the fifth when Holly Paris led off with a double and moved to third on Ashlee Anton's sacrifice bunt. Rachel MacBeth drove in Paris with a single before Brianne Weeks and Jen Kosinski reached on errors allowing MacBeth and Weeks to score. Minx then drove home Kosinski with a double.

Minx and Paris each had two of the Tigers' seven hits, while Rachael Cirello had the Spartans' lone hit. Bichler improved to 26-8 as just one ball reached the outfield in the win. Hannah Norton dropped to 16-6.
