Lauer Finishes Third in Pentathlon for Third Career All-America Honor

98168May 27, 2011, Greencastle, Ind. — DePauw's Courtney Lauer notched the third multi-event all-America honor in the last two years when she finished third in the women's heptathlon at the NCAA Division III Track & Field Championships hosted by Ohio Wesleyan.

Lauer entered today tied for sixth overall, but finished third in all three of today's events and broke her own school record with 4,906 points. Janey Helland of Gustavus Adolphus won with 5,061 and Emma Dewart of Ithaca was second with 5,015.

She started today with a personal best in the long jump at 5.39 meters (17-8.25) which was good for 668 points. In the javelin, Lauer's throw of 37.35 meters (122-6) was good for 617 points. She wrapped up the day with an 800-meter run in 2:22.26.

On Thursday, Lauer started the day by totaling 743 points after finishing the 100-meter hurdles in 15.77 seconds before adding 736 points after a high jump of 1.60 meters (5-3). She followed that with a tie for second in the shot put at 11.29 meters (37-0.5) for 614 points. Lauer then totaled 735 points after finishing the 200 meters in 26.72 seconds.

Lauer finished fourth in the pentathlon at this year's NCAA Division III Indoor Championships and was sixth in the heptathlon at last year's Division III Outdoor Championships.

Lauer will also compete in the javelin tomorrow afternoon.
