Tigers Take Two of NCAC's Top Four Field Hockey Awards

103135November 18, 2011, Greencastle, Ind. — Following a 16-3 season which included a North Coast Athletic Conference co-championship and a runner-up finish at the conference tournament, the DePauw field hockey team earned two of the conference's top four postseason awards. 

Junior forward Margaret Ellis (St. Louis, Mo./Whitfield) was named the NCAC Offensive Player of the Year after leading the team and the conference with 24 goals and 57 total points. Ellis also led the Tigers and shared the conference lead with nine assists and ranked 10th in NCAA Division III in goals per game and 12th in points per game. She led the Tigers with seven game-winning goals. Ellis was also the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Year as a sophomore.

103134Freshman midfielder Paige Henry (Louisville, Ky./Kentucky Country Day) was selected as the conference's Newcomer of the Year after scoring eight goals and assisting on three others for 19 total points.

Joining Ellis and Henry on the All-NCAC First Team was sophomore defender Chelsea Cutler (Victoria, B.C./Mt. Douglas Secondary). Cutler spearheaded a defense which allowed just 17 goals and totaled 11 shutouts. DePauw ranked fourth in NCAA Division III in shutouts per game and ninth in goals against average. Cutler also scored one goal and assisted on three.

Junior forward Bridgette Shamleffer (St. Louis, Mo./St. Joseph's Academy) and sophomore defender Taylor Helms (Oklahoma City, Okla./Casady School) were named to the All-NCAC Second Team, with senior forward Kimberly Trainor (Brookfield, Wis./Brookfield Academy) and junior midfielder Courtney Wood (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest Academy) earning honorable mention.
