Sunku Kwon Named Assistant Athletic Trainer

Greencastle, Ind. - Sunku Kwon, a sports medicine intern at Yale University, has been named assistant athletic trainer at DePauw University.

Kwon will assist head athletic trainer Rex Call with football sports medicine responsibilities and oversee the same for men's basketball and men's lacrosse.

At Yale, Kwon primarily worked with the women’s gymnastics, men’s and women’s squash, men’s heavyweight crew and the Ivy League champion women’s volleyball teams. In addition, he also assisted with the men’s basketball and football squads.

Prior to arriving at Yale, Kwon most recently worked at a fellow Ivy League school, Brown University, where he was associated with the football, men’s basketball, men’s ice hockey, men’s and women’s lacrosse and wrestling teams. While there, Kwon also helped conduct research on head trauma in ‘Concussion Report: Data on Head Impact Exposures in Collegiate Football Players’ with Joseph J. Crisco and Russell Fiore.

Kwon has also expanded his knowledge of the athletic training field by working as a student trainer at Bridgewater State University (Mass.), where he worked with football, men’s basketball, men’s and women’s swimming and diving, men’s and women’s track and field and the wrestling. He was also given the opportunity to be a summer athletic training intern with the NFL’s Jacksonville Jaguars in 2010.

A 2004 graduate of Kyunghee University in Suwon, Korea in sports medicine, Kwon went on to earn his master’s degree in athletic training from Bridgewater State in 2011 after completing service to his country as an officer in the Republic of Korea’s Army (2004-07).

Kwon is a board certified athletic trainer (ATC), an American Red Cross CPR/AED card holder and is designated a First Aid Rescuer by the American Academic of Orthopedic Surgeons. Additionally, he is a member of the National Athletic Trainers Association, the American College of Sports Medicine, the Korean Athletic Trainers Society, the Eastern Athletic Trainers Association and the Connecticut Athletic Trainers Association.
