DePauw Falls to Alma 4-1

Alma, Mich. - Alma's Mackenzie Smith scored with just 1:05 left in the first half to break a 1-1 tie and then added two second-half goals to lift the Scots to a 4-1 win over DePauw. The Tigers dropped to 0-4 with the loss, while Alma improved to 3-1.

Kalley Vlug scored just 1:53 into the contest to give the hosts a 1-0 lead before DePauw's Dana Sprague scored at 19:24 to even the score.

Smith's first goal came at 43:55 and then she pushed the Scots' lead to 3-1 at 56:40 with another unassisted score. She notched the hat trick at 63:09 on assists from Agatha Weddle and Brittany Dulyea.

Alma outshot the Tigers 29-6 including a 14-4 advantage in shots on goal. The Scots also held a 3-0 edge in corners.

DePauw's Emma Cooper had six saves in the first half, while Caroline Kerr totaled four in the second. Alma's Morgan Waier totaled three saves in the first half, while Rachel Doptis didn't face any shots on goal in the second half.

The Tigers open North Coast Athletic Conference play on Saturday, September 15, when they host Denison at Noon.
