Kris Huffman Tabbed as WBCA's Division III Coach of the Year

April 9, 2013

Kris HuffmanNew Orleans, La. - Following a perfect 34-0 season including the NCAA Division III title, DePauw head women's basketball coach Kris Huffman has been named the Division III Coach of the Year by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association.

The announcement came at the annual WBCA Convention during the Women's Final Four.

The honor marks the second time she's earned the award from the WBCA as she also was the top pick in 2002 after leading the Tigers to a third-place finish in the Division III Championships.

Huffman is just the fourth coach in Division III history to earn the award twice as she joins Dixie Jeffers (Capital), Pam Ruder (Wisconsin-Oshkosh) and Nancy Fahey (Washington-St. Louis).

Completing her 20th season at DePauw, Huffman directed the Tigers to a perfect regular season (28-0) for the first time in school history including a North Coast Athletic Conference championship. With six NCAA tournament wins including a 69-51 championship victory over Wisconsin-Whitewater, DePauw became the first school in Division III history to win 34 games in a season and just the seventh to finish a campaign without a loss.

Huffman has led DePauw teams to a 466-102 (.820) record in her two decades in Greencastle and ranks among the top 12 in winning percentage (all-time on all NCAA levels) among coaches with at least 10 years of head coaching experience. She's directed the Tigers to 10 straight NCAA appearances including 14 in the last 18 years and 14 outright or shared conference championships.

Including their national title in 2007, DePauw became just the sixth school to win at least two titles in the 32-year history of the Division III Championship.

In March, Huffman was named the D3hoops.com Coach of the Year for the second time and WDIII News for the third time.
