Four DePauw School of Music Ensembles Invited to Perform at the White House

November 21, 2014

It promises to be a holiday season to remember for approximately 30 DePauw University student musicians.  They'll be traveling to Washington, D.C., next month for December 20 performances at the White House.

The ensembles making the trip to the nation's capital include the DePauw Jazz Combo, DePauw Chamber Singers, Asbury String Quartet and DePauw Cello Ensemble. Each group will perform two hours of holiday music; the entire day of music will be provided by DePauw.

"The quality of our students and faculty is very well known throughout the country, and we are thrilled to receive this invitation," says Mark McCoy, dean of the DePauw University School of Music. "Typically, guests are invited to give a short performance. That we have been invited to provide music for an entire day is particularly remarkable."

The School of Music submitted digital recordings of their performances to the White House for consideration and were informed this week that they have been selected to provide music on December 20.

Founded in 1884, the DePauw University School of Music is one of the nation's oldest private institutions for post-secondary music instruction and the longest-running in Indiana.
