Newspaper Notes Swim Team's Training in Florida

December 29, 2015

untitled 138"Snowbirds aren't the only ones who flock to Brevard County during the winter months; college athletes also come here in droves to work out in warmer temperatures," begins a Florida Today story. "Just ask Adam Cohen, the men's swimming coach for DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana, whose team has traveled to Brevard for winter training at the Cocoa Beach Aquatic Center for several years. Cohen credited Brevard's beaches for luring the team here."

Cohen tells the newspaper, "The guys prefer a beach. They're much happier when we have a beach to play on."

Ilana Kowarski writes, "Recruiting sports teams to Brevard sports facilities and hotels has a significant economic impact.  A report from the Space Coast Office of Tourism estimates that, between fall 2014 and fall 2015, amateur sports tourism contributed at least $23.7 million to the local economy, which tourism officialsdp newspaper say is a conservative estimate based on the spending they were able to track."
