DePauw Theatre Presents Seminar, Jan. 31 - Feb. 3

January 22, 2016

Seminar, a dark comedy by Pulitzer Prize nominee Theresa Rebeck, will be presented by DePauw Theatre.  Directed by M. Susan Anthony, Mary Alice Braden Professor of Communication and Theatre, the play will be presented nightly at 7:30 p.m., beginning on Sunday, January 31, and continuing through Wednesday, February 3, in Moore Theatre of DePauw University's Green Center for the Performing Arts.

Audiences are invited to a post-show reception in the Green Center's Great Hall on opening night. A talk-back session will take place after the Tuesday, Feb. 2 performance.

Seminar opened in 2011 on Broadway, featuring Alan Rickman in the lead role of Leonard, a professor. The play explores the lives of Kate, Martin, Douglas and Izzy, four young fiction writers living in New York City. They each pay $5,000 to participate in a 10-week writing seminar taught by the intelligent, but degrading Leonard, whom the students quickly realize has no restraints on what he says or does. As the seminar progresses, the group’s writing improves, their mindsets change and their relationships are tested.

This production is recommended for mature audiences only as it includes graphic language and suggestive sexual situations. [photo, l-r: Kenneth Yager’17 (Martin); Brittny Goon '17 (Kate); Billy Burke '17 (Douglas); Hannah Gauthier ’17 (Izzy); and G.D. Skoog (Leonard)]

Tickets are $6 for general admission and $3 for students. They are available for purchase online at www.brownpapertickets.com/event/2478334.
