Greencastle Middle School Jazz Band Joins DePauw Jazz Ensemble for Wednesday Concert

April 22, 2016

The DePauw Jazz Ensemble welcomes the Greencastle Middle School Jazz Band to the Kresge Auditorum stage for the ensemble’s last concert of the semester at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 27 at DePauw University's Green Center for the Performing Arts.

The 22-member GMS band -- led by volunteer DePauw student instructors Ciara McManus, Leland Nelson, Spencer Schillerstrom and Allan Whitehead -- will open the program with such beloved standards as Henry Mancini’s “The Pink Panther and Neal Hefti’s classic Li’l Darlin’.”

The DePauw Jazz Ensemble will follow with works by iconoclast jazz composer Bob Brookmeyer, Japanese pianist Toshiko Akiyoshi, and other featured artists including Chick Corea and Don Grolnick.

“It’s always a special evening when the middle school jazz band joins us in Kresge Auditorium,” says Steven Snyder, director of the DePauw Jazz Ensemble. “The students are always very excited to play at DePauw and to share the stage with us, and their energy and enthusiasm is an inspiration for the university students as well.”

General admission to the jazz concert is $3; tickets for seniors, children and all students are free. Tickets are available at the Green Center box office beginning one hour prior to the performance or online any time at www.music.depauw.edu.
