Rising Sophomore Kayla Sullivan Wins Scholarship Essay Contest

July 18, 2017

Kayla Sullivan, who will be a sophomore at DePauw University this fall, is among the 2017 winners of the annual Regions Riding Forward Scholarship Essay Contest. Sponsored by Regions Bank, the contest "celebrates Black History Month by allowing high school seniors and college students who reside or attend college within its geographic footprint to submit an essay about how an African-American has been an inspiration in the applicant’s life," notes today's announcement.

Sullivan and this year's other 29 winners were selected from more than 7,000 entries. Each college-level winner receives $3,500.

"For Regions, the Riding Forward Scholarships represent an important connection between honoring Black History Month and helping students continue their education," said Lajuana Bradford, head of corporate social responsibility for the bank. "It’s allowed us a meaningful way to invest in our communities and more specifically, the lives of over 180 students who’ve benefited from the scholarships since 2012."

Since the scholarship program was launched six years ago, more than $764,000 has been awarded to students to further their educations.
