Prof. Ted Jelen Dies at Age 65

Ted Jelen headshotTed G. Jelen, a professor of political science at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas who served as the Lee G. Hall Distinguished Visiting Professor of Political Science at DePauw University in 2005-06, died yesterday following a lengthy illness. He was 65 years old.

Jelen received his B.A. from Knox College, and his M.A. and Ph.D. from Ohio State University. He joined the UNLV faculty in 1997, and also taught at Benedictine University, Ipek University in Turkey, and Georgetown University.

Dr. Jelen has published 14 scholarly books and over 100 articles and chapters in academic outlets. He was editor of the Journal for the Scientific Study of Religion and was a founding co-editor of Politics and Religion.

The American Political Science Association established the Professor Ted G. Jelen Award to recognize the best article on religion and politics.
