Studies in Philosophy and Education Praises Book by Prof. Derek Ford
February 6, 2018
In a review of Communist Study: Education for the Commons in Studies in Philosophy and Education by Derek R. Ford, assistant professor of education studies at DePauw University, Zane Wubbena calls the book "insightful, thought-provoking, and therapeutic while unsettling and challenging to critical conventions."
Writing in Discourse: Studies in the Cultural Politics of Education, Wubbena adds, "The challenging and unsettling nature of the book stems from its architectonic structure. It requires a complete understanding of each chapter; however, a complete understanding of each chapter can only be achieved by understanding how each chapter relates to the book as a whole."
The reviewer adds, "This book bridges the oft intellectual divide, bringing postmodernism into relation with Marxism and political economy, to structure the edifice of a communist pedagogy. In doing so, Ford establishes himself as a premier educational and political theorist."
Discourse: Studies in the Cultural Politics of Education is an international, fully peer-reviewed journal publishing contemporary research and theorizing in the cultural politics of education.
