Ken Owen '82 to Emcee 'Indy PR Legend' Ceremony Next Month

Ken Owen, special adviser to the president at DePauw and 1982 graduate of the University, will serve as master of ceremonies next month as Louis E. "Lou" Gerig is honored as an "Indy PR Legend." Gerig, "whose career in communications and public relations has brought him to the Reagan White House and to sensitive and important work on behalf of major American corporations and organizations," will receive the award at a Wednesday, November 14 luncheon in downtown Indianapolis.
Owen is a member of the Indianapolis Public Relations Society, which presents the award, and is a former member of the IPRS board of directors.
Now the president of Sease, Gerig & Associates (SGA), an Indianapolis-based consultancy focused on management, communications and public relations, Gerig began his career as a school teacher and worked as a newspaper reporter. After a stint as director of public relations at the University of Indianapolis (formerly Indiana Central), Gerig headed to Washington, D.C., to serve as press secretary for U.S. Sen. Richard G. Lugar and then joined President Ronald Reagan's administration as an assistant to Press Secretary James Brady.
Gerig's firm represents about 40 of the state's most prestigious companies and organizations.
Ken Owen returned to DePauw in 2001 after two decades in TV news. Along his responsibilities to raise the University's external visibility as spokesman and liaison with media outlets, he coordinates the Timothy and Sharon Ubben Lecture Series and the annual Monon Bell telecast. His efforts to make pieces of DePauw's past more relevant and accessible include the restoration of a 1941 admission film, and he has created "Monon Memories" of every football game between DePauw and Wabash College for the Monon Bell since the rivalry began in 1890. The video vignettes were the subject of features in the Chronicle of Higher Education and during HDNet's telecast of the 115th Monon Bell Classic in November 2008.

Since coming to DePauw, Owen has moderated two statewide political debates and has appeared on Fox News Channel and Inside Indiana Business, among other outlets.Back
