Laura Shinall '83 Discusses Her Business Philosophy with Trade Magazine

"The most important and valued character trait in business is integrity," Laura Shinall, president of Syndicate Sales and 1983 graduate of DePauw University, tells Super Flora, a monthly magazine for supermarket, mass-market and other high-volume florists. "It is the foundation upon which good companies are built. It is the internal compass that guides every good leader."

Shinall, featured in the publication's "How I Did It" section, is the"third-generation of a family-owned business ... a Kokomo, Ind.-based manufacturer, importer and distributor of floral hard goods." The magazine notes that "Laura is an entrepreneur at heart, running her first small business at the age of 16.

"My business philosophy is simple: If I cut the pie, you get the first piece. If you cut the pie, I get the first piece. You can’t cut the pie and get the first piece," Shinall states.
