2019 Commencement DVDs Available for Pre-Order
March 29, 2019
A day to remember -- graduation from DePauw University -- can be relived through a limited edition, professionally replicated DVD, which is available for pre-order. The disc will include the May 19 commencement ceremony and an array of extra features that spotlight the past four years. It is now available for pre-order for $19.95 for the first disc; additional DVDs sent to the same address will be $7 each (shipping to domestic addresses is included; 7% sales tax will be added to Indiana orders).
An online order form is available here.
As recently announced, Drew Powell, an actor and 1998 DePauw University graduate who is best known for four seasons as a character on Fox's hit series Gotham, will provide the primary address to his alma mater's Class of 2019. Powell will also receive the University Arts Medal during the program.
Honorary doctoral degrees will be awarded to three individuals -- Iraqi American artist and educator Wafaa Bilal; historian, author and professor Ann G. Carmichael; and noted jazz trumpeter Eddie Henderson -- during the 10 a.m. ceremony in Holton Memorial Quadrangle.
The DVD will contain four-camera coverage of the commencement exercises, including the procession of graduating seniors, speeches, and video of each graduate receiving his or her diploma.
Those looking for a particular part of the program can immediately access what they seek via the DVD's menu. For example, to see a graduate whose last name is Baxter, you click on the letter 'B' in the menu and are immediately taken to the first person whose last name begins with the letter 'B' receiving his or her diploma. Users can also jump to specific speeches, or watch the program from beginning to end. (at left: front cover of 2018 commencement DVD)
The DVDs are professionally replicated, not duplicated, and are housed in a decorative jacket. They will ship a few weeks after the ceremony.
The disc's bonus selections will highlight some of the memorable experiences the graduates have had over the past four years at DePauw. There will be campus highlights from 2015-2019 (ranging from clips of the opening convocation at which the Class of 2019 was welcomed to DePauw and clips of Ubben Lecturers such as Malala Yousafzai, David Hanson and Sophia, David Cameron, Bill Rasmussen '54, John Kasich, Arne Duncan and Leslie Odom Jr.); a photo gallery of commencement day activities; and vintage film from the DePauw Archives.
"The disc serves as what amounts to a video yearbook for our graduates and their families," says Ken Owen '82, special adviser to the president, who launched the DVD project almost two decades ago and directs the video shoot and masters the end product. "It's a great way to celebrate the four-year experience for years to come."
This will mark the 18th commencement DVD that DePauw has produced, and the 45th DVD overall. Past projects include 23 Monon Bell Classics (1977, 1984, 1993, 1994 and 2000-18), some of which remain available here.
DePauw has produced a commencement DVD each year since 2002. Discs of past commencement ceremonies are available via this link.
