Mike Sherman '88 Named CEO of Chimerix

Michael A. Sherman, a 1988 graduate of DePauw University, has been appointed chief executive officer of Chimerix (NASDAQ:CMRX), which describes itself as "a biopharmaceutical company developing novel antivirals to address unmet medical needs." He comes to the post from Endocyte, Inc. (NASDAQ:ECYT), where he served as president and CEO until its acquisition by Novartis AG in December 2018.

Martha J. Demski, chair of the Chimerix board, cited Sherman's "proven track record of successfully developing valuable clinical assets" and his demonstrated "ability to unlock value while bringing important therapeutics to patients in need."

Sherman stated, "I am excited to be joining Chimerix at this pivotal juncture in its growth trajectory and believe that together we can implement a strategy to maximize the company's strengths to create both near- and long-term value."

Sherman was an economics major and Management Fellow and played football for coach Nick Mourouzis. He went on to earn an M.B.A. from the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth. Sherman serves as chair of the board of the Children's Museum of Indianapolis.
