DePauw Climbs in US News 'Best Colleges' List; Indiana's Top Liberal Arts College
September 9, 2019
The annual U.S. News & World Report listing of America's top colleges is out today, and the 2020 edition puts DePauw University at #46 (tied with six other institutions) among "National Liberal Arts Colleges," making it the top Indiana school in that category. DePauw, which was in a tie for #56 last year, is also #44 for "Best Value Schools" tied for #60 for "Best Undergraduate Teaching" in the 2020 rankings.
“DePauw faculty and staff and their commitment to the success of each and every student led us to climb ten spots in the national liberal arts colleges ranking,” said Mark McCoy, president. “DePauw also appears to be among the biggest movers -- if not the biggest mover -- in the overall rankings this year, so the DePauw community has much in which to take pride. We also made the rankings for Most Innovative Colleges, superior First-Year Experiences and as a Social Mobility Top Performer."
"U.S. News made some changes for its 35th edition of the rankings," according to the Boston Globe. "The publication updated its methodology to give the nearly 1,400 schools it evaluated more credit based on how they supported first-generation college students through graduation. The publication evaluates schools based on student outcomes, faculty resources, expert opinion, financial resources, student excellence, and alumni giving. This year, the publication also created a new ranking category, Top Performers on Social Mobility, evaluating schools that best serve underrepresented students by looking at enrollment and graduation rates of low-income students."
DePauw University was recently ranked #21 on the Forbes list of the "25 Top Colleges in the Midwest." Read more here.Back
