President Lori S. White discussed how to combat the “great resignation” as a panelist at the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators conference.


Pedar Foss, professor of classical studies, is author of “Pliny and the Eruption of Vesuvius,” a forensic examination of two of the most famous letters from the ancient Mediterranean world. He returned to his alma mater, Gustavus Adolphus College, March 11 to present a lecture, “From St. Peter to Pompeii: Scientific Methods in Archaeology.”


David N. Gellman, professor of history, is the author of “Liberty’s Chain: Slavery, Abolition, and the Jay Family of New York,” which explains how the Jay family, abolitionists and slaveholders alike, embodied the contradictions of the revolutionary age.


Adam Liebman, assistant professor of anthropology and sociology, presented his paper, “Harnessing the Stenches of Waste: Bodies as Environmental Sensors in Contemporary China,” March 27 at the Association for Asian Studies annual conference.

Out and About

Students watching a demonstration of lithography techniques

This month, 40 students from the Art and Art History Department participated in a field trip to Chicago, accompanied by Lyle Dechant, art and art history instructor; Maggie Leininger, assistant professor of art and art history and director and curator of exhibitions and university collections; and Skip Brea ’16, post-MFA scholar and assistant professor of art and art history. Students explored the collections at the Art Institute and visited the Chicago Printmakers Collaborative, where the director provided a firsthand demonstration of lithography techniques.



DePauw Magazine, a thrice-yearly publication for the university’s 35,000 alumni, on March 30 was recognized for external publications by Collegiate Advertising Awards and received a gold award for its three issues in 2021.

Our Healthy Tigers HSA Information Session, April 7, 9 a.m. via Zoom.

The reimagined wellness program offers fun and exciting ways to get healthy with a new incentive menu to help you achieve your wellness goals and earn incentive dollars. The first 15 minutes of the session will review 2022 changes and introduce the new platform. The remainder of the session will be open to Q&A. Learn more.
