Sarah Rowley, assistant professor of history, co-wrote an opinion piece, “The Duggars might lose their show, but the toxic culture they promote persists,” which was published in The Washington Post Dec. 23.

An article by history professor David Gellman, “‘The master and the man must change places for a season’: Untangling Historical Narratives of Race and Loyalty in ‘The Spy,’” was published in the fall/winter 2021 issue of the James Fenimore Cooper Society Journal.

Emmitt Riley, associate professor of Africana studies and political science, was interviewed by Courthouse News for its Dec. 21 story, “For future of voting rights, and the Senate, fate of filibuster looms large.

Policy Futures in Education published a review Jan. 3 of “Marxism, Pedagogy, and the General Intellect: Beyond the Knowledge Economy” a monograph by Derek Ford, assistant professor of education studies.

Junior wins scholarship to study abroad

Angelica Glogowski ’23 has won a scholarship sponsored by the U.S. State Department to study abroad in the spring term.

 

The Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship, established in 2001, enables students with financial need to study abroad. Last October, the State Department recognized DePauw for producing 53 Gilman award recipients over the previous 20 years, more than most small institutions in America. Read more.

GOLD Learning Academy

Leading and Managing Change - Jan. 19, 8:30 a.m.-noon.

Held via Zoom, in this session participants will explore common barriers to embracing change via the three-part model of Switch, identifying the role of the Rider (the logical need for change), the Elephant (the emotional response we have to change) and the Path (the plan to implement change). In addition, time will be given to explore how to utilize the 3-part model to create momentum for embracing and leading change. Register here.

Our Healthy Tigers HSA Information Sessions

Jan. 13 at 9 a.m. via Zoom.

The reimagined wellness program offers fun and exciting ways to get healthy with a new incentive menu to help you achieve your wellness goals and earn incentive dollars. The first 15-20 minutes of the session will review 2022 changes and introduce the new platform. The remainder of the session will be open to Q&A. Learn more.
