Covid-19 Sick Call Policy

To help mitigate the spread of the Coronavirus the following temporary Sick Call Policy is in effect for all University Employees.

Sick Employee

  • If an employee does not feel well or has ANY symptoms of COVID-19, they should stay home from work and put on a mask if they are around anyone else.  

  • Employees should notify their supervisor per normal procedures that they will be out sick.

  • This contact should be made regardless of the employee’s insurance status.  

  • HR may direct the symptomatic employee to contact the DePauw Health Wellness Center (DHWC) for a consultation to determine next steps. 

  • Hourly Employees will not use sick time.  If an employee is instructed by medical advice to quarantine or isolate, HR will approve the use of time code COVID-19 for these situations.

  • Do not return to work until HR has sent a Return to Work notice.

Employee being tested or awaiting results of Covid-19 Testing

  • DO NOT COME TO CAMPUS.  

  • Employees should notify their supervisor per normal procedures that they will be out sick.

Employee has been identified as a close contact

  • Unvaccinated Individuals:

    • DO NOT COME TO CAMPUS.  

    • Employees should notify their supervisor per normal procedures that they will be out sick.

    • Hourly Employees will not use sick time.  If an employee is instructed by medical advice to quarantine or isolate, HR will approve the use of time code COVID-19 for these situations.

    • Do not return to work until HR has sent a Return to Work notice.

Unvaccinated employees who are close contacts of a confirmed positive COVID-19 case will have a choice whether to test 5-8 days after their exposure to leave quarantine on day 10 or complete a full 14 days of quarantine. Through the contact tracing process, HR will direct the employee regarding the appropriate timecard notation for sick days. Employees who are notified by a state contact tracer of their close contact status should contact HR.

    • Employees will be directed to identify their testing location as soon as they are placed into quarantine if they choose to utilize the 10-day quarantine option. The test must be completed between days 5 and 8 of the quarantine.

    • Employees who opt not to be tested will be required to complete the full 14 day quarantine before returning to on campus work

  • Vaccinated Individuals

(this section currently also applies to unvaccinated individuals who were diagnosed with COVID-19 in the previous three months)

If you are informed by an outside entity that you are a close contact of a person who has COVID-19, you will be required to contact Bruce Burking at 765-658- 4180 or bburking@depauw.edu or Angie Nally at 765-658-6395 or adnally@depauw.edu

If you are informed by either the University or an outside entity that you are a close contact of a person who had COVID-19 and you do not have any symptoms of COVID-19, you do not need to quarantine if you are vaccinated. However, if you are informed that you are a close contact of a person who has COVID-19, you will be required to:

    • Monitor yourself for symptoms for 14 days 

    • be tested for COVID-19 3-5 days after your exposure

    • wear a mask indoors in public for 14 full days following your exposure or until you receive your negative test result.

    • follow directives given to you by your contact tracer.  

If you develop any symptoms of COVID-19, you should immediately self-isolate, contact your medical provider and notify your Human Resources.

Employee has a household member with Covid-19 Symptoms or a household member has been identified as a close contact 

  • UNVACCINATED INDIVIDUALS:

    • DO NOT COME TO CAMPUS.  

    • Employees should notify their supervisor per normal procedures that they will be out sick.

  • Vaccinated Individuals

(this section currently also applies to unvaccinated individuals who were diagnosed with COVID-19 in the previous three months)

If  you do not have any symptoms of COVID-19, you do not need to stay home.  If your household member tests positive and you are informed that you are now a close contact, notify HR and follow Close Contact portion of this policy. Continue daily health assessments and if you develop any symptoms of COVID-19, you should immediately self-isolate, contact your medical provider and notify your Human Resources.
