Disposition: Subject Released/Trespassed

Investigation Status: Ongoing

May 3, 2019 3:03 p.m.

Dear Students, Faculty, and Staff,

In early April, you were notified of an arrest and no trespass order for all of campus issued to a former student. The local authorities have made us aware that the individual has been released from jail. However, the individual was escorted to the airport by law enforcement officials and will remain with law enforcement officials until he is released to the custody of his parents. He is leaving the state of Indiana later today. As a reminder, the DePauw no trespass order remains in place and includes all public spaces on-campus and private facilities housing our students on-campus.

In any case where you feel concerned or unsafe for any reason, please speak up. It is imperative that if you see something, you should say something. DePauw Police can be contacted at 765-658-5555 or police@depauw.edu. Other questions and on-campus support may be directed specifically to the Dean of Students at deanofstudents@depauw.edu and/or the Student Academic Life Office at 765-658-4270.

Signed,

Alan P. Hill

Vice President for Student Academic Life

Investigation Status: Ongoing

Dear Students, Faculty and Staff,

In the recent April 1 Information Bulletin, we let you know that the individual arrested had been issued a no trespass order for all of campus. Please note that this order remains in place and includes all public spaces on-campus and private facilities housing our students. The person in question is no longer enrolled at DePauw.

In situations where the conduct is deemed egregious, we are permitted by law to provide additional information to the campus beyond normal restrictions of the Federal Educational Rights to Privacy Act (FERPA).  Because the no trespass order remains in place, we are attaching a photo of the individual.

I once again want to remind you that in any case where you feel concerned or unsafe for any reason, please speak up.

Signed,

Investigation Status: Ongoing

April 1, 2019 10:54 a.m.

Dear Students Faculty and Staff,

Overnight, DePauw Police received an anonymous report regarding a student suspected of having weapons in their possession. DePauw Police, Greencastle Police and the Putnam County Sheriff Department responded immediately. The student was apprehended and the weapons confiscated. The student is in police custody and a no trespass order has been issued for all of campus.

As written in the student handbook, the university does not permit weapons on campus. As a reminder, our crime log does include a list of all on-campus crimes, fires and other reports.

We commend the student who reported this situation anonymously. DePauw Police will continue to work with local authorities on this matter. If you have information related to this or other incidents, please contact DePauw Police at 765-658-5555 or police@depauw.edu. Other questions and support may be directed to the Dean of Students’ Office at deanofstudents@depauw.edu or 765-658-4270.
