Rain Plan for Commencement

The University makes plans in the event rain or other inclement weather are likely to affect the formal Commencement Ceremony.

Unless otherwise announced, Commencement exercises will take place in Holton Memorial Quadrangle at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, May 19, 2019. 

The University will monitor weather and, should the forecast call for inclement weather to disrupt the ceremony, officials may call for the ceremony to be moved indoors to the Lilly Center.  In such a scenario, graduating seniors (along with faculty and staff) will receive a text or email message from the University providing further instructions.  The University will also post to its primary Twitter and Facebook feeds, in addition to updating the homepage of with an alert. If possible, the University will make a decision about relocating the Commencement Ceremony no later than 8:00 a.m. Inclement weather (indoor ceremony) tickets are limited and will be issued to graduating seniors a few days prior to commencement.

In an instance where inclement weather moves in swiftly or unexpectedly immediately prior to or during the Ceremony, the University may opt to postpone the start of the ceremony or to briefly suspend the ceremony and restart it following the storm's passing.  In scenarios like these, University officials will--in addition to sending the aforementioned text and email messages--make an announcement from the podium with further instructions for members of the audience.
