Mental Health Peer Educator Program

Each year Counseling Services seeks to hire a cohort of DePauw students to be part of our Mental Health Peer Educator Program. Below is an overview of the position including roles and responsibilities of a Peer Educator. 

Specifics regarding these positions:

  • One full academic year commitment (August-May)

  • Paid opportunity (must be eligible for a Federal Work Study position) for 3-5 hours per week 

Roles and Responsibilities of the Mental Health Peer Educator:

  • Provide outreach programming on mental health topics to the campus community. This includes tabling events, workshops, assisting with the facilitation of the Spring Wellness Fair, creating/facilitating 1 Social Wellness Program each semester, etc.  

  • Help provide accurate information/decrease misinformation about Counseling Services (contact information, clinical/outreach services, how to make appointments/access services, and the Counseling Services Staff) utilizing correct terminology to support peers in connecting with our office. 

  • Research and create resources and/or social media content to share relevant mental health and wellness information with the campus community (Weekly Wellness Wisdom, program advertisements, topic-specific resources for tabling events, etc.). 

  • Identify campus mental health needs and discuss potential resources, services, and/or programs to address those needs.

  • Learn information related to a variety of mental health and wellness concerns related to college students. 

  • Learn when and how to make appropriate referrals to campus resources such as Counseling Services, CARE Team, Accessibility Services, etc.

  • Assist in decreasing mental health stigma both within DePauw and the Greencastle Community. 

  • Model and share healthy self-care and resiliency practices with peers in hopes of creating a stronger holistic wellness culture on campus
