Two Automatic-Qualifying Swims and School Records in Four Events Highlight #11 DePauw's Second NCAC Day

Canton, Ohio - DePauw's 11th-ranked men made NCAA automatic cuts in two events and school records in four during the second day of competition at the North Coast Athletic Conference Championships.
DePauw has totaled 679.5 points through two days, while Denison leads with 1,111.5 and Kenyon is second with 1,065.
The 200-yard medley relay of Blake Lehmann, Matt Kukurugya, Alex Alfonso and Jack Burgeson finished second in 1:30.13 which, not only broke the school record but earned them automatic qualification into the NCAA Division III Championships.
Casey Hooker (pictured) broke the school record and notched an "A" time of 49.25 seconds in the prelims of the 100 butterfly and then improved upon it in the finals with a winning time of 48.77 seconds. It also marked DePauw's first individual NCAC swimming title its two years of competition.
Lehmann was sixth in the 100 fly in a "B" time of 49.61, while Matt Gleason was ninth in a "B" time of 49.53, Matt Haeske was 15th in 1:48.64 and Robby Spichiger 16th in 1:48.69.
Alex Grissom made a "B" cut in the 200 free with an eighth-place finish in 1:41.22 and finishing in 1:40.94 in the prelims. Danny McGuiness was 10th in a "B" time of 1:41.48.
Kukurugya was second in the 100 breaststroke in a "B" time of 56.55, while Luke Hessburg was third in a "B" time of 56.80. Andrew Peterson was 12th in the event in 59.60.
George Morrison was 11th in the 100 backstroke in 52.82 and Chris Ercoli 16th in 54.39 after swimming a 54.21 in the prelims, while Stephen McMurtry was 13th in the 400 individual medley in 4:14.65.
DePauw's 800 free relay of Hooker Grissom, Spichiger and Haeske closed out the night with a third-place finish in a "B" time of 6.44.05 which also set a school record. Hooker's 200 free split of 1:39.00 broke the school record as well.
Competition at the C.T. Branin Natatorium wraps up on Saturday.
