Our Commitment to Ethical Conduct
Commitment Statement
At DePauw University, we are dedicated to fostering a culture of integrity, accountability, and respect. All members of our community, students, faculty, and staff, are expected to uphold the highest standards of ethical and professional conduct.
Status:
The Whistleblower Policy was approved by the Audit and Risk Management Committee and has been effective since January 1, 2007.
Overview:
DePauw University is committed to high standards of ethical conduct and compliance with all applicable laws and University policies. This policy protects students and employees who, in good faith, report suspected violations of law, fraud, financial irregularities, policy violations, or other dishonest or unlawful conduct.
Protection Against Retaliation:
Retaliation against anyone who makes a good-faith report or participates in an investigation is strictly prohibited. Individuals who knowingly make false reports or engage in retaliation are subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination.
Reporting Concerns:
Reports may be made confidentially and, when appropriate, anonymously. The university will investigate all reported concerns and take appropriate action. Reports can be made through designated University officials or via anonymous reporting.
Anonymous Reporting:
Anonymous reports may be submitted by calling the Campus Conduct Hotline at (866) 943-5787. The hotline is a confidential, independent reporting service.
Oversight:
All reports and investigations are handled in accordance with university procedures, with oversight by university leadership and the Audit and Risk Management Committee of the Board of Trustees.
Violations may include, but are not limited to:
• A violation of a federal, state, or local law;
• Fraud or financial irregularities;
• Violation of any university policy;
• Fraudulent financial reporting;
• Forgery or alteration of any documents;
• Unauthorized alteration or manipulation of computer files;
• The use of university property, resources or authority for personal gain or for non-university-related purpose except as authorized or provided under university policy;
• Authorizing or receiving compensation for services not received or services not performed;
• Requesting reimbursement for expenses not incurred;
• Authorizing or receiving compensation for hours not worked;
• Activities endangering the health and safety of others.
