Sexual Assault Survivor Advocates
How Can a SASA Help?
Sexual Assault Survivor Advocates (SASAs) are staff trained in sexual assault response to support students in crisis, whether the incident happened recently or in the past.
An advocate can:
-
Share available resources
-
Offer a semi-confidential space to talk
-
Review reporting options
Advocates can also provide resources for peers and family members to learn how to support a survivor.
What Does Semi-Confidential Mean?
-
Survivors may seek assistance from a SASA without initiating an investigation that could reveal their identity.
-
A SASA will report the nature, date, time, and general location of an incident to the Title IX Coordinator without disclosing personally identifiable information.
-
Confidentiality questions can be discussed directly with the SASA.
-
In cases of imminent danger, a SASA may involve Title IX and DePauw Police, but the survivor’s identity will remain private whenever possible.
