Sociology
Studying Sociology at DePauw
Race relations. Gender. Sexuality. Family. Work. Law. Medicine. Religion. Criminal justice. These are just a few of the complex – and highly relevant – topics that you’ll explore through the study of sociology. How do different groups and cultures make sense of their world? What are the patterns or rules that undergird their values and practices? By asking these questions and many more just like them, you’ll learn to challenge received knowledge, analyze structural inequalities and develop a historical and comparative perspective in tackling contemporary issues.
Sociology courses at DePauw are far-reaching and in-depth. With offerings such as Contemporary Society, Medical Sociology and Criminology, you’ll discover numerous contexts in which to grow as a researcher, communicator and critical thinker. This holistic approach to education encompasses several interdisciplinary components, providing an ideal foundation for achieving professional and personal success in our increasingly globalized and interconnected world.
