Mona Bhan, Assistant Professor of Anthropology and a member of the Conflict Studies steering committee, joined DePauw in 2006 after getting her PhD in Cultural Anthropology from Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey. Her extensive research work on Ladakh on questions of identity, development, militarization, and counterinsurgency has been published in numerous journals such as the Journal of Asian Studies, Sociological Bulletin, and Contemporary South Asia. She is currently finishing a book manuscript on her research in Ladakh. In 2008 and 2009, Mona conducted ethnographic fieldwork in Kashmir where she focused on the relationship between violence, counterinsurgency, and environmental activism. At DePauw she teaches courses on Wars and Militarism, Anthropology of Development, Ethnography of Gender in South Asia, Cosmopolitanism, and Environmental Anthropology.
