Chemistry
Studying Chemistry at DePauw
The study of chemistry not only gives you insight into how the universe functions at a molecular level, but it also allows you to make meaningful contributions to some of the most pressing issues facing us today. Whether you’re interested in tackling a contemporary health crisis, pioneering a new scientific innovation or finding solutions for one of our many environmental challenges, a foundation in chemistry will empower you to improve lives and make a positive impact on society.
Pursuing a degree in chemistry begins by focusing on the core fundamental concepts of organic chemistry, inorganic chemistry, physical chemistry and biochemistry. This starting point provides the solid foundation needed to support exploration at a deeper level in upper-level courses, both in the classroom and the laboratory. Along the way, you’ll enjoy considerable flexibility to explore sub-disciplines of chemistry in ways you find most stimulating while taking advantage of ample opportunities for off-campus internships and on-campus research with faculty. These experiences will propel you toward a thriving future in careers such as research, medicine, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics or education.
