Statement on Scholarly or Artistic Work
As a film professor, I teach a wide range of production courses, including fiction, documentary, experimental film, and experimental animation. Beyond production, my teaching interests center on cinema as a tool to explore themes related to the non-human and feminism. I also offer courses on Asian cinema and Korean media, expanding critical perspectives on transnational and diasporic narratives.
As a filmmaker, I work across diverse forms and genres, challenging conventional modes of storytelling. My work often explores the ambivalence of invisibility, the presence of non-human and floating beings, vulnerability, autobiographical elements, and issues surrounding immigration and womanhood. Through these themes, I aim to blur the boundary between dream and reality, inviting viewers into spaces of uncertainty, wonder, and transformation.
