Employee Accommodations Policy
Reasonable Accommodation Related to Disabilities, Pregnancy, Childbirth, or Related Conditions
The University is committed to the fair and equal employment of individuals with disabilities under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the Pregnant Worker Fairness Act (PWFA), and all applicable state and local fair employment practices laws. It is the University’s policy to provide reasonable accommodation to qualified individuals with disabilities as well as to individuals who are pregnant, recovering from childbirth, or have a medical or common condition related to pregnancy that affects their ability to perform their job, unless the accommodation would impose an undue hardship on the company.
Employees may request an accommodation from Human Resources and engage in an informal process to clarify what the employee needs and to identify possible accommodations. If requested, the employee is responsible for providing medical documentation regarding the medical condition and possible accommodations. All information obtained concerning the medical condition or history of an applicant or employee will be treated as confidential information, maintained in separate medical files, and disclosed only as permitted by law.
The University prohibits any harassment of, or discriminatory treatment of, employees or applicants based on medical conditions or because an employee or applicant has requested a reasonable accommodation. Employees should use the procedures described in the Employee EEO, Title IX, and Sexual Misconduct Policy to report any harassment, discrimination, or retaliation they have experienced or witnessed.
In compliance with Ind. Code §22-9-12-3, in the event that an employee submits a written request for an accommodation for pregnancy, childbirth, or any related medical condition, the University will respond to the request within a reasonable amount of time. Employees who make such requests or who receive accommodation for pregnancy, childbirth, or any related medical condition will not be subject to retaliation for having done so.
Employees may contact Human Resources for support in making a request at hr@depauw.edu or calling 765-658-4181.
