Strategy and Definitions

Institutional Equity at DePauw University is grounded in the belief that fostering a diverse, equitable, inclusive and welcoming environment directly supports academic excellence, employee engagement, student success and financial health. It is both a compliance responsibility and a strategic driver of institutional competitiveness.

The Division of Institutional Equity leads work in four strategic areas:

  • Compliance: Upholding civil rights laws and reducing risk through proactive policy work
  • Leadership: Embedding DePauw’s diversity and inclusion values into institutional strategy and developing student leaders
  • Engagement: Delivering diversity, equity and inclusion learning opportunities and guiding climate-informed action
  • Belonging: Advancing welcoming practices, inclusive programming and community trust

Each university division also leads diversity and inclusion objectives tailored to their scope of work. DePauw’s equity and inclusion principles are integrated throughout our institutional strategies and operations.

At DePauw, in 2023 our community of faculty, students, staff and local stakeholders gathered to define language critical to this work.
