As an institution, DePauw University is committed to honoring our obligations under Title IX of the Higher Education Amendments of 1972 (Title IX). In accordance with the provision of Title IX, the University does not discriminate on the basis of sex or gender in any of its education or employment programs and activities.
The Title IX Administrators are available 8:00 am - 5:00 pm Monday-Friday.
Please contact the Title IX office via the email or telephone number below if you need assistance or to schedule a meeting.
The Role of Title IX:
Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 is a federal law which prohibits discrimination based on sex in any education program or activities that receive federal funding. In its early history in American colleges and universities, Title IX was used to create equity in academic, co-curricular, and extracurricular programs such as athletics. Subsequent court cases and regulatory interpretations have recognized that sexual harassment and sexual violence are also forms of sex-based discrimination prohibited by Title IX.
In compliance with Title IX, DePauw University has:
- A policy of nondiscrimination
- A designated Title IX Coordinator (see sidebar for contact information)
- Grievance policies and processes for students and employees providing for prompt and equitable resolution of reports of sexual harassment
Title IX reports can be filed with the DePauw University Title IX Coordinator. Additional information about reporting is available on DePauw's Sexual Respect web page. Title IX complaints can also be filed with Department of Education, Office of Civil Rights.
The University takes seriously its responsibility to educate the campus community on issues of harassment and sexual misconduct. Please refer to the Sexual Respect page for additional information on our policies, processes, supports, and resources.
