Kavi Thakkar290BA: Topics:Financial Regulation and Corporate Governance
This course explores the theoretical foundations, regulatory frameworks, and the role of corporate oversight that have molded modern financial systems and corporate behavior. Students will examine why key regulations emerged, how major economic and financial crises have reshaped policy, and how corporations respond to growing demand for accountability. Landmark legislation, like the Federal Reserve Act, Sarbanes-Oxley, and Dodd-Frank, will be analyzed in connection with events such as the Great Depression, Enron, and the 2008 financial crisis. Through assigned readings and applied case studies, students will develop a deeper understanding of how regulation addresses economic crises, market failures, corporate misconduct, and stakeholder expectations. Prerequisite: ECON 100.
