DePauw University is extending its commitment to a thriving business education by announcing the appointment of Gary Lemon as the interim dean of the School of Business and Leadership. A respected figure in both global finance and liberal arts education, Lemon brings a half-century of institutional service and industry expertise to the role.

Since his arrival in 1976, Lemon has not merely taught at DePauw; he has been the architect of its modern business pipeline. Widely regarded as an icon within the university, his appointment secures a leader with institutional gravity and a distinguished corporate reputation to guide the business school's strategy.

“Gary is a pioneer whose impact on this university and the broader business world is immeasurable,” said DePauw president Lori S. White. “He has shaped the lives and careers of thousands, forging a path for generations of executives and entrepreneurs. His leadership at the School of Business and Leadership is a tremendous advantage for our students and our campus.”

Lemon’s resume extends far beyond the traditional academic sphere, reflecting a legacy of impact throughout the financial sector. As a nationally recognized authority on investment strategy, he is the author of the highly acclaimed book “Savvy Investing.” His expertise is highly sought after at the highest levels of institutional finance, evidenced by his tenure on elite investment committees entrusted with overseeing more than $70 billion in globally invested mutual funds.

“It is a tremendous honor to be appointed dean of the School of Business and Leadership at DePauw,” said Lemon. “I hope to continue the great work that has already been started to educate young leaders for the challenges and opportunities they will face as they leave the college environment. On campus, Lemon is celebrated as a visionary behind DePauw’s most prestigious professional incubators. During his tenure as the director of the McDermond Center for Management and Entrepreneurship and his previous leadership of the Management Fellows Program, Lemon built an elite corporate network as a means to empower student opportunity and success. Under his stewardship, the program became a premier launching pad, consistently placing students into top-tier internships and securing their positions in the highest ranks of Fortune 500 companies.

Lemon assumes his role immediately, bringing his network, financial acumen, and decades of visionary leadership to the forefront of DePauw's School of Business and Leadership.
