Derek Ford, assistant professor of education studies, published a monograph, “Marxism, Pedagogy, and the General Intellect: Beyond the Knowledge Economy,” through Palgrave Macmillan. He also co-wrote the article “Teaching Politically and the Problem of Afropessimism,” which appeared in Black Agenda Report Sept. 29.

Jeff McCall, communications professor, was quoted Sept. 28 in The Epoch Times in “News Outlets Backtrack From Claims Border Agents ‘Whipped’ Illegal Immigrants.” He was quoted by the Deseret News Sept. 30 in “America after 25 years of Fox News.”

Nahyan Fancy, professor of Middle East/comparative history, will give a talk titled “Knowing the Signs of Disease: Tracking the Evolving Understandings of Plague in Islamic Societies, 700–1300” Wednesday during his semester as the al-Qasimi visiting professor of Islamic studies at the Institute for Arab and Islamic Studies at the University of Exeter in the United Kingdom.
