Suzanne Hoover ’67 Honored by Delta Gamma National Foundation
Distinguished alumna Suzanne Anderson Hoover ’67 was honored during DePauw’s Old Gold Weekend by the Delta Gamma National Foundation with an award recognizing her legacy of philanthropy and service. The ceremony took place at the Gamma Iota chapter house on DePauw’s campus, with multiple generations of Delta Gamma members as well as representatives from the National Foundation in attendance.
“Our core value at Delta Gamma is ‘Do Good,’ and Suzanne exemplifies that,” said Jeannine Deimel Dolinski ’80, former House Corporation Board president and campaign chair, president of the Greek Community Board and member of the DePauw Alumni Board. “When it comes to doing good, there’s no one I admire more than her.”
The Gamma Iota chapter of Delta Gamma was established at DePauw in 1949, with its current house on S. Locust St. built in 1958. In 2017, a capital campaign was launched to support several needed renovations for the aging 17,000-square-foot building, and Hoover, a former chapter president, was an instrumental part of bringing those renovations to fruition.
“Suzanne was the first donor I met with,” says Dolinski. “We discussed the needs of the sorority house, and she was extremely gracious and generous to us. She allowed us to do some renovations we probably never would have been able to do otherwise.”
In addition to her support of the chapter’s capital campaign, Hoover has also established a pair of scholarships to support DePauw Delta Gamma women. The Suzanne Anderson Hoover Housing Scholarship Fund creates financial support for juniors and seniors living in the chapter house, while the Suzanne Anderson Hoover Fellowship Fund establishes resources for members who go on to pursue postgraduate degrees.
Prior to this recognition, Hoover received Delta Gamma’s Cable Award for having completed at least ten years of service in an official capacity, and she was granted Delta Gamma's Oxford Award for her community service and philanthropic dedication. Hoover also serves on the board of the Anchor Center in Denver, one of Delta Gamma’s flagship institutions supporting children with vision impairments.
Dolinski sums up the impact Hoover has had throughout the Delta Gamma and DePauw University communities. “We adore Suzanne. It’s evident how much she loves young people and loves speaking with them at the house. Her generosity has supported a beautiful and safe home for our members. We genuinely appreciate her.”
