Individual Sanctions
Any combination of the following sanctions—or others—may be applied through the Community Standards process. Multiple or repeated violations will result in increased sanctions. The sanctions listed are guidelines, not an exhaustive list.
Expulsion
The most severe sanction for violation of the University Code of Conduct.

Results in immediate dismissal and permanent separation from the University.

Parents or legal guardians are notified.

Expelled students cannot visit the University or attend campus functions without written permission from the Vice President for Student Affairs.

Expulsions are automatically reviewed by the President of the University.

Tuition, fees, and residence hall room and board are not refunded.
Violations warranting expulsion include, but are not limited to:

Behavior resulting in death (hazing, alcohol, violence, arson, etc.)

Possession or use of weapons that may cause significant harm
-
Dealing or distributing large quantities of narcotics or illegal substances
-
Catastrophic property destruction
Suspension
The second most severe sanction.

Results in immediate dismissal for at least the remainder of the semester and/or a specified period thereafter.

Parents or legal guardians are notified.
-
Additional violations or failure to comply during suspension may result in expulsion.

Students cannot visit the University or attend campus functions without written permission.
-
Tuition, fees, and residence hall room and board are not refunded.
Violations warranting suspension include, but are not limited to:

Dealing or distributing narcotics, marijuana, or other controlled substances
-
Possession of substances with intent to distribute

Repeated substance violations
-
Driving under the influence impacting self or others
-
Physical assault, hazing, harassment (serious/repeated)
-
Theft with significant monetary or property loss
-
Possession or use of weapons, fireworks, ammunition, or explosives
-
Significant destruction of property or tampering with fire alarms
-
Materially threatening or endangering safety

Violations while on probation
Probation
-
Duration: 4 weeks up to 1 year
-
May include educational requirements, additional sanctions, or loss of privileges

Students are notified unless of legal age and submit a written request not to notify parents
Violations warranting probation include, but are not limited to:

High-risk alcohol violations or multiple alcohol incidents

Driving under the influence impacting self

Sharing or repeated possession/use of marijuana
-
Disorderly, lewd, or indecent conduct
-
Harassment based on race, gender, sexual orientation, or religion

Failure to comply with University officials
-
Falsification or misrepresentation of documents
-
Unauthorized property damage or entry
-
Repeat or significant violation of Housing and Residence Life policies
-
Misuse of fire alarms or smoke detectors
-
Public indecency or nudity impacting others
-
Violations after previously receiving a Review or Formal Warning
Review

Duration: 4–6 weeks of reflection, observation, and review
-
May include educational requirements or additional sanctions

If further violations occur, student may be moved to a higher sanction level
Violations warranting review include, but are not limited to:

Alcohol violations with increased consumption/BAC, hard alcohol, or drinking games

Multiple lower-level alcohol violations

First-time low-level possession of marijuana (

Presence in a room where controlled substances are used

Unauthorized use of University facilities or living units

Public nudity not impacting others

Repeated violation of Housing and Residence Life policies

Violation of University ordinances or regulations
Formal Warning

Written notification of a Code of Conduct violation

Warns against future violations
-
May include educational requirements or additional sanctions

Minor violations may be placed in this category
Violations warranting a formal warning include, but are not limited to:

Lower-level alcohol use or possession
-
Alcohol paraphernalia
-
Noise or parking violations
-
First-time use/possession of underage tobacco
-
Minor Housing and Residence Life policy violations

First-time fire safety hazards (candles, extension cords, string lights)
-
Knowledge of lower-level policy violations in your room or residence
