June 14, 2016

On June 14, approximately 70 students in the Gobin Methodist Church's Summer Enrichment Program (directed by Julie Stevens) visited the Julian Science and Math Center to learn about maps and fossils.  Prof. Scott Wilkerson and Ben Wilkerson led groups through topographic map and watershed activities with the augmented reality sandbox where the students investigated volcanoes, craters on the moon, drainage divides, lava flows, and more.  While waiting to work with the sandbox, other student groups worked at tables where they had could touch and recognize fossils common to DePauw's Nature Park in a hands-on activity with a fossil identification worksheet.  Other groups also explored the rock & mineral displays and the T-Rex replica skull "Stan" in the Julian atrium.
