Faces of DePauw

Sydney Wysong Student

If I were to give advice to incoming freshmen, it would be to take advantage of what DePauw has to offer EARLY!

Embracing Opportunities

I’ve been involved in many different facets of campus life. As a presidential ambassador I welcome special guests and interact with trustees. I’m a management fellow and assist our ambassador groups to not only promote the fellows program at DePauw, but visit high schools to recruit prospective students.

As vice president of College Mentors for Kids, I pair DePauw students with little buddies from elementary schools in Greencastle. I also give campus tours to prospective students and their families on tours around the campus while sharing my most memorable experiences. I am a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority and am involved in the McDermond Center for Management and Entrepreneurship programming, including Women in Economics and Business and the DePauw Investment Group.

During winter term, I went to London, Paris and Beijing.

Having the opportunity to build personal relationships with my adviser, faculty members and staff has molded my academic experience at DePauw. They have taught me how to learn, ask smart questions and be engaged.

If I were to give advice to incoming freshmen, it would be to take advantage of what DePauw has to offer EARLY! Go to lunch with alumni after their presentations, have a second and third resume review, as painful as they may be, take a sculpture class or even learn a new language.

Following graduation, I am returning to Eli Lilly and Co. in Indianapolis to work in the finance department. I completed a semester-long internship through the Management Fellows Program during the spring of my junior year. My adviser and faculty members helped me navigate a rigorous preparation and interview process in order to land my dream internship. My communication skills and problem-solving allowed me to excel at various tasks and projects thrown my way. The DePauw network is endless.
